Today I was skinning my model when I discovered I had overlooked some atrocious topology on the feet of the male character. I will be remaking the feet with proper topology, but I'm feeling sick so I think I'll be resting the afternoon out.

Today I encountered some issues with my rig that I went over with, with Craig. We're having a go at using his scripts for the male character too. There are some very obvious flaws with my rig that I have to fix, for example the curve spine is way out of position and the controllers are far too big.

Today I worked further on the male character's hair, focusing on silhouette; making the profile appealing while keeping within the model sheet. 

I then made sure that both models are finished and ready to skin. 







We had a discussion with Sharon in the afternoon about potential things that could make the story better. One of the things that was mentioned was about how the mirror could be redesigned. I decided to have a go at doing a bunch of concept art for it and see what people think.

This morning I had a blood test before class, so I couldn't make it for the first half of the day.

I'm trying to get the hair to look appealing from all angles today. The silhouette yesterday was fine but it wasn't quite right from the other angles that we're going to see that character from.

I have tried a few methods of doing hair today but I still haven't tried anything I'm happy with. 

Here's a picture of one thing I tried. 


I was going to try make it look a little messy, but within the profile, but I lost a lot of the appeal with it, and it doesn't really have the desired look.

Today I've been trying to work out the hair for the male character. It's quite tough since the character has been designed by a 2D animator, for 2D animation, so the translation from the model sheet is difficult. I'm thinking about the profile of the character, making sure that I maintain a good silhouette. It needs a lot more work.

I have remade a large portion of my rig again today, including the master controller. I also fixed the positioning of the hips in the character as I had some small issues due to it. I need to fix up the parent spacing of the hands, so that I don't have any issues later on.

Today I worked further on rigging the male. I'm planning to use IK arms and legs, with an FK spine. The arms and legs should have stretch, and the arms should have parent space switching.

Today I worked on modelling the male character further, got it ready to rig. I then started adding his skeleton.

Success.
I had more help from Craig today. He couldn't figure out why my rig had any issues with the legs, and couldn't see anything wrong with my network. I even made one in front of him and he said I was doing everything correctly. He tried it again using a locator instead of the hip for the distance node and it worked with the left foot but no such luck for the right foot. He then showed me the autorig scripts he made in the ACNZ tools, and ran the autorigger for the legs. There were a couple complications but we managed to get the stretch working.

Still working on the stretch for the legs, I've never had a rig break so many times, and I have no idea what's going wrong. I know the network of nodes like the back of my hand now, and have retried it on the hands twice just to make sure I know what I'm doing. I just can't get it to work. 
I some how managed to get the foot to not bring an error message when I pull the controller past the foot, but it's still not stretching.
